COMMITTEE MEMBER

Committees are small teams of people who come together to discuss issues related to PIRS and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. PIRS has six standing committees:

Program Committee

Reviews the progress of programs and develops a plan for program evaluation.

Recommends new programs in response to changing community needs.

Personnel Committee

Reviews personnel policy and develops new policy for Board approval.

Reviews staffing needs and salary scales and makes recommendations to the Board.

Public Relations Committee

Informs the community of our programs and objectives through a variety of media.

Designs and prepares promotional and informational material for Board approval, e.g. brochures.

Fundraising Committee

Develops and implements fundraising strategies, both short and long term, to meet the fundraising goals of the Board.

Explores and develops new sources of funding

Membership Committee

Sub-committee of the Fundraising Committee.

Increases and supports membership in the society.

Board Development Committee

Identifies positions that need to be filled on the Board or Committees.

Organizes orientation programs and materials for new Board members.

Community Partnerships and Development Services Committee

Offers support and advice to the CPDS staff.

Develops and recommends priorities and directions for the CPDS

Required Commitment

Committee members are required to attend one committee meeting a month (normally on a weekday afternoon or evening). Members can expect to spend an additional 4-6 hours per month working on committee related tasks and events.

General Requirements

  • A commitment to PIRS programs and participants;
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant and refugee families;
  • Willingness to contribute ideas, time and energy in working towards PIRS's goals;
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural group setting;
  • Ability to respect confidential information;
  • Ability to make a one-year commitment;
  • A member in good standing
