MEMBER OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The PIRS Board of Directors is a group of twelve to fifteen volunteers with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The primary responsibility of the Board is to develop policies to guide the Society's programs and services. The Board approves and monitors the Society's budget, secures funding, and sets short and long term goals for the Society. It ensures that we meet the requirements of our mandate and of our funders, and evaluates the success of the programs we offer.

Required Commitment

Board members are required to attend one Board meeting per month on a weekday evening. Members can expect to spend an additional 4-6 hours each month participating in Board-related tasks and special events. A two year commitment is required.

General Requirements

  • A commitment to PIRS programs and participants;
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant and refugee families;
  • Willingness to contribute thoughts, time and energy in working towards PIRS's goals;
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural group setting;
  • Ability to respect confidential information;
  • Ability to make a two-year commitment
